The blaue Enzian

Or make one out of two

The 'Blaue Enzian' was the description of an articulated tramway set, which were welded together in 1962, from two individual wagons namely the wagon 65 and 66 from the construction year 1950. For the first time in history all passengers sat in the direction of motion on the Wuppertal suspension railway. In addition passenger comfort was considerably increased through a finely graduated circuit. In this railway passengers experienced a floating feeling. This lead to passengers missing their trains in the hope the next train might be the 'Blaue Enzian'.

'The advantage was obvious for the Stadtwerke (public utilities): 'This way one of the two train conductors could be saved. The company Westwaggon in Cologne, supplier of the suspension railway, developed special articulated parts as well as the new middle part. With the help of these parts two individual wagons from the headway flotilla were connected to an articulated train.'

On the 19.04.2010 a new Enzian, a blue one with the no. 11 was put into operation. The lovely blue was taken from the 31 new busses from last years.

Whether the 'new one' will stay an individual item or the colour be worth considering for future wagons hasn't been decided yet. (see 2. photo)
